Local to the northern suburbs

May Paving is Brodie and Kayla May, a husband and wife team based in Gawler, right at the top of the northern suburbs. Brodie measures up your job himself and is on site until it is finished.

Homes in the north usually need one of two things. In the newer estates, it is finishing a new home: the driveway, side paths and an alfresco area on a bare block. In the older parts of Elizabeth and Salisbury, it is replacing tired, cracked concrete and relaying paving that has sunk.

We are fully licensed and insured under Builder's Licence BL 355972, with over 10 years of hands-on paving and landscaping experience.

Typical northern suburbs jobs

The kinds of jobs that come up north of the city.

01

New home, bare yard

In growth areas like Munno Para West, Andrews Farm, Blakeview, Angle Vale and the new estates out towards Virginia, homes are often handed over with the yard unfinished. We do the driveway, side paths, alfresco paving and garden as one job.

02

Old concrete out, pavers in

Many homes in the older parts of Elizabeth, Salisbury and Smithfield still have their original concrete driveway and paths. We break out the cracked concrete, rebuild the base and lay pavers that can be lifted and relaid if the ground ever moves.

03

Sunken paving and relaying

The northern Adelaide plains are largely reactive clay. Paving on a thin base, next to a leaking downpipe or over an old trench drops. Lifting, re-bedding and relaying usually fixes it without new pavers.

04

Backyards and pool areas

Patios, entertaining areas, pool surrounds and retaining walls on the bigger blocks around Angle Vale, Craigmore and Two Wells, with landscaping done to the same levels.

Northern suburbs paving — common questions

Do you come out to Elizabeth, Salisbury and Munno Para?

Yes. We are based in Gawler, so the northern suburbs are part of our regular patch. Munno Para, Smithfield, Craigmore and Angle Vale are close by, and Elizabeth and Salisbury are a short drive further.

We have just moved into a new home. Can you do the driveway, paths and alfresco together?

Yes. Finishing off a new home is exactly the kind of job we take on: the driveway, side paths, an alfresco or patio, and the garden around it, done as one job by one team.

Does my estate have rules about paving or landscaping?

It might. Many newer estates have design guidelines or an encumbrance on the title that covers front yards, driveway materials or when landscaping has to be finished. Check your contract of sale or ask the developer before you choose pavers, and tell us what it says when we measure up.

Can you replace an old cracked concrete driveway with pavers?

Yes. We break out and remove the old concrete, prepare a new compacted base and lay pavers. Our guide to pavers vs concrete driveways compares the two.

Why have the pavers at my place sunk?

Usually water and the base: a leaking downpipe, a trench that was never compacted, or clay that has swollen and shrunk under a thin base. Most sunken paving can be lifted and relaid rather than replaced. See sunken pavers and relaying.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. May Paving is fully licensed and insured under Builder's Licence BL 355972, with over 10 years of hands-on paving and landscaping experience.
